You’re Worthy Of Acknowledgment For These Reasons
Self-love and appreciation are two of the most important, yet overlooked human needs. Unfortunately, most people don’t get enough of either one. Research has shown that positive affirmation can go a long way toward helping one’s self-confidence and self-esteem, and that’s what we’re here to help with today.
Whether you’ve been needing a pick-me-up, or are just curious to know what you should be proud of, we’ve got a list of items that are worthy of a self-high-five…
For Your Sense of Style
You are uniquely you. There’s no one else in this world who will be like you, even if you’re an identical twin or some other kind of multiple. Your sense of style is just one of the ways you choose to express yourself in public, and for showing people even that small part of you, you deserve a pat on the back.
For Your Body
People place way too much emphasis on what we all should look like or what’s universally attractive or accepted. As long as you’re healthy, it doesn’t matter if your butt is little, if your lips are thin or if there’s a little bulge in your stomach. You only get one chance at life and you shouldn’t spend it hating the body you’ve been blessed with.
For the Things You Find Joy In
Believe it or not, lots of people don’t have the time or the luxury of enjoying themselves. The fact that you’re able to do that and make yourself happy, even if it’s just for a little while means that you should get a pat on the back.
For Being Passionate About Something
There are many passionless people in the world. Why do you think lots of job and relationship requirements include the words “must be passionate …”? It’s because passion means that you love or care about something enough to pursue it or indulge in it. And opening yourself up to do that is deserving of some praise.
For Doing Anything that Made You Uncomfortable
Deliberately putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation is not something many people can or are willing to do. It could be something as simple as asking your crush out, speaking up at work or saying what’s on your mind. If you aren’t comfortable doing something but can find the courage to do it, you need a round of applause- not just a pat on the back.
For Standing Up For Yourself
One of the biggest things anyone can do for themselves is to stand their ground. No matter who you are, there will come a time in life where you’ll have to put someone in their place for saying something awful to or about you or for treating you horribly. Doing it just once is deserving of a pat on the back.
For Saying No
A lot of people find it hard to say “no” to others. And because of that, it’s easy to be taken advantage of. If you’re one of these people, the word “no” will probably not be in your vocabulary or at the very least, it will be one of your most underused words. Finding the strength to do it is huge! And when you do, a standing ovation should be in order.
For Waking Up Today
Do you know how difficult it is for some people to find the will to go about their days? Just their mere fact that you’re doing it and have been doing it for your entire life speaks volumes! So keep waking up every day and make the most out of all of them.
For Failing
This one is quite confusing, isn’t it? Failing at something- anything- means that you put yourself on the line, to begin with. And doing that in itself is respectable. Do you know the number of people who are too afraid to even try? So, don’t be afraid to fail at anything.
For Overcoming Obstacles
It’s hard to get over failures and bumps in the road. These things can be pretty discouraging and it’s very easy to let them overwhelm you. Brushing past these setbacks is what will get you further in life and it’s for sure something that deserves a pat on the back.
For Not Giving Up
Do you know how easy it is to be disheartened and want to quit? People do it every single day. In fact, it’s much easier to stay down in the dumps than to get back up. Finding the strength to go on even when you’ve failed, or when people have discouraged you is more than commendable.
For Your Accomplishments
But you should also not forget about the things you’ve already accomplished in your life. It doesn’t matter if it’s your GED or whether you got the job of your dreams. If you’ve ever set your mind to something and have gotten it done, congrats to you!
For Daring to Dream
People like to say that dreaming is for fools, but that’s a lie. Dreams are how goals are born. They allow us to say, “what if” and those two words can blossom into something that can change the course of your life. If you’re following your dreams, no matter how grand they seem to others, you deserve a pat on your back.
For Wanting to Grow
It’s not a crime to want to grow. In fact, wanting to do just that is a sign of maturity and it’s also a sign that you want more and better for yourself- and who could ever fault you for doing that? Kudos to you for wanting to elevate yourself!
For Wanting Something for Yourself
There’s nothing wrong with wanting something for yourself and if anyone calls you selfish for it, then they shouldn’t be in your life. No one should fault for you wanting anything, no matter how big or small, for yourself.
For Taking the First Step
Whether it’s with a job, a relationship or a minor change to your life, taking the first step is hard. And lots of people don’t have the courage to that. If you’ve ever taken the first step in your life, we’re proud of you.
For Being Able to Compromise
Meeting someone in the middle isn’t always the easiest thing to do, mostly because it means that you won’t be getting everything you want. But the conscious decision to not make everything about what you want or need is commendable.
For Being Vulnerable
Putting yourself in a position to get hurt and embarrassed is not something many people can do. And for good reason. Who would want anyone to hurt them? And if you’re putting yourself in that position daily, it’s downright incredible.
For Following Your Heart
The battle between your head and your heart is one of the more difficult fights that people can go through in their life. Your head will lead you in the safest direction, while your heart is more likely to get you hurt. Knowing that and still following it praiseworthy.
For Getting Your Heart Broken
At this point, you’re probably thinking we’ve lost our minds, but just keep reading. Getting your heart broken is not a good experience, to say the least. But it’s something we feel everyone has to go through. Heartbreak opens your eyes, it makes you rely more on yourself, it challenges you and it gives you the chance to find the someone who is actually deserving of you. If you’ve gone through that test, good on you.
For Being Able to Forgive Others
People can be pretty evil, that much is clear. And one should expect to be hurt a time or two in their lifetime. What you can never really predict is how badly you’ll be hurt- which makes it even more difficult to determine whether you’ll be able to forgive them or not. It’s an extremely difficult thing to do and at the end of the day, it will set you free. But you deserve a massive pat on the back for being able to do it.
For Forgiving Yourself
One of the hardest things to do in life is to forgive one’s self. Most people find it easier to forgive others for their wrongdoings than themselves. Maybe it’s the guilt that continually haunts us or maybe we’re constantly reminded of our actions every day. Whatever it is, one of the hardest things to do is to tell yourself it’s okay, that things happen and you’ll learn from the experiences from your past.
For the Lessons You’ve Learned
When you’ve learned something in school, it’s customary that your teacher, your parents or guardians congratulate you. So why does it have to stop because you’re an adult? It doesn’t have to and it most definitely should not. If you’ve learned a lesson, whether it’s something you wanted to or not, give yourself a pat on the back for it.
For Making Decisions
Whether you’re a naturally decisive person or not, there are some decisions you should be proud of yourself for making. It’s not always easy being an adult and having to choose what to do with your life and sometimes the lives of other people is not easy. You should commend yourself for being able to do that every day.
For Doing Something On Your Own
Being independent and doing things on your own is not as easy as people make it out to be. There are some people who just can’t be alone, so the mere fact that you’re able to go out and do anything on your own deserves a pat on the back.
For Showing Up
Being able to show up, no matter whether it’s to work, to a girl’s night out or a family gathering says two things about you. It says that you’re consistent, which is a great thing and it also says that you can keep your word, another great thing.
For Unplugging
In a world where most of the population is pretty much consumed by technology, we’re proud of the people who are able to unplug from it all and take some time to meditate, self-reflect or just read a book.
For Taking Care of Yourself
It’s not as easy as some think, to take care of yourself. In fact, more people put others before themselves and often ignore their needs because there’s something more “important” that takes priority. And it’s a way of life for some. So if you’ve been living your life and taking care of yourself in the process, then you deserve a few pats on the back.
For Saving Money
One of the hardest things to do in life is to save money. Everyone knows it’s an important thing to do, but it’s so difficult. Whether it comes naturally to you or whether it takes a bit of effort, the fact that you’re doing it is commendable.
For Planning Ahead
Making plans, no matter what they are, is a sign that you’re looking forward to the future. That optimism is not something that everyone has. But beyond that, making plans helps with personal, economic and social development. And we’re all for that.
For Honoring Commitments You Made to Yourself
It’s crazy, but it’s often easier to break a promise to yourself. People find it so much harder to disappoint others than to disappoint themselves. If you’re in the habit of keeping your word to yourself, then kudos to you.
For Setting Boundaries
Boundaries are very important. A lot of us find it hard to make or set them because we don’t want to hurt others, but they’re so important because they protect us or at the very least, let people know we should be respected. Taking those measures should definitely be applauded.
For Being Honest with Yourself
It’s amazing how hard it is for most people to treat themselves as well as they treat others. And one of the biggest things is honesty with one’s self. It’s hard to admit that someone isn’t into you or that you’re in a dead-end job. Being able to admit the truth to yourself will only help you grow.
For Being Honest with Others
It is extremely important to be honest with yourself, but it’s also necessary to do so with others. Lying only means that you’ll have to remember the untruths you’ve said to keep it going. But more than that, being honest with others just shows maturity and good character.
For Accepting Others for Who they Are
No two people are the same, which means you won’t get along with everyone. But it is important to respect them and accept them for who they are. Remember, you don’t have to like them or be fake with them, but you should acknowledge that they are the way they are- and there’s probably nothing you can do to change that. Wouldn’t you want someone to do the same for you? So if you’ve understood that and live your life by that belief, we’re happy for you.
For Helping
It doesn’t really matter who you help in this lifetime, but if you have and continue to do it, then you’re an amazing person. It could be something as simple as helping someone cross the street, picking up a few groceries for someone who isn’t fortunate or for giving someone a chance at a job.
For Volunteering
Giving your time, no matter how long or short you do it for is commendable. Just the idea that you’re devoting your time and energy to help someone else means that you’re a caring individual who understands that people need assistance sometimes.
For Donating
Donating isn’t simply about giving money to a cause, it’s also about giving people your used items or things you’ve never worn or used. Instead of throwing something out, like most people would, you thought of another person’s needs. Similarly, you could have taken your money and bought something with it- instead, you’re giving it to someone who probably wouldn’t be able to eat because of you. And it’s an act that isn’t congratulated enough.
For Being A Good Friend
Good friends are hard to come by and if you know you’ve been a pretty amazing one then you should be applauded for that. If your friend has called in the middle of the night and you’ve stayed up with them, if they needed rescuing from a guy at the bar and if you prevented them from sending a text to someone who isn’t good for them, great job!
For Being You
People don’t appreciate themselves enough. We want you to know that you are worth it. It’s also very hard to be yourself in a world where almost everyone is just concerned about what’s on the surface. There’s no one who’ll ever be exactly like you are and for that along you should be very proud.
