Before And After Bathroom Remodels For Every Budget
The average person spends a whopping 182 hours a year in the bathroom- using it, reading in it, bathing in it, and engaging in any of a variety of other activities. For this reason, it’s one area of your home that you’ll want to think about when it comes to adding value to your property.
Prospective buyers look closely at bathrooms when deciding whether or not to purchase a home. Investing time and money into this area can net you more profit at the time of a sale and will also provide you the most enjoyment if you’re simply looking to spruce up your homestead. So what makes a great, valuable, and functional bathroom? Let these incredible remodels, for all budgets and home types, provide all the inspiration you’ll need…
Before: Dysfunctional Space
This remodel began with a broken shower and a boosted toilet to make it appear ready for use. These essential pieces of a bathroom must be fixed in order to maintain the most basic standards of cleanliness.
The segregated nature of this layout does not provide optimal function; homeowners were looking to remove the wall separating the vanity from the rest of the room and create a more open space that would be updated and beautiful.
After: Desert Oasis
Estimated Cost: $6800
This refreshing take on an old space opens up the room with the use of light and dark accents, while a functional shower and a full sized toilet ensure that any time in this bathroom will be well spent.
Thanks to the updated design features and the removal of the clunky wall, which took around $2000 to complete, some truly unique shower elements, and one of a kind lighting and fixtures, the room is open and ready to be enjoyed.
Before: Dated In Vegas
You’d think that Vegas fixtures could present a more glitzy, polished look, but in this case, this bathroom falls short and fails to impress. Dated fixtures and drab lighting have most anyone who beholds this bathroom wishing for some upgrades.
Former fixtures in this fixer-upper seem reminiscent of those you’d find in a modest, outdated apartment or hotel. A hard-to-reach window is not well placed atop a generic shower design, making the whole space seem dim and uninspired.
After: Dressed To Impress
Estimated Cost: $7000
Breathtaking floating sinks atop a $1700 double vanity comprise a major portion of this renovation budget, but they form the standard by which the rest of the rest of the design is chosen. Though the shower window itself wasn’t changed during construction, the clever use of lighting fixtures and color throughout makes the entire space seem lighter and brighter.
While the skeletal structure of this bathroom remained the same, the presentation gives a much more polished and pleasant feel. From clean, modern fixtures to pops of color used with linens and greenery, this is one inviting place to spend an evening getting ready for a night out on the town.
Before: Unusual Layout
It may seem like this first floor bathroom was well thought out and well presented at first, until users kept repeatedly bumping their elbows on the walls during some vigorous face washing in the sink. It seemed that a remodel was in order.
The geometric design running through the bath was pleasing, but the layout of this room just didn’t make sense; new attention to detail would retain some of the original charm of the bath while giving the whole space a more open feel.
After: Lean And Clean
Estimated Cost: $8900
Some reconstruction of the space needed to be done; the end result was magical, however. Plenty of space on a sleek and modern sink ensures that there will be no injuries incurred from brushing teeth, applying a salt scrub, or simply preening in the mirror.
With the most expensive aspect of this upgrade being the reconstruction of the wall insert, contractors were left with about $6000 left for some stone-looking tile, a sleek black toilet cover, and a newsworthy floating sink, which came in at around $500. The coordinating artwork on the walls brings the whole look together and provides some much-needed space for self-care.
Before: Fix Up Disaster
It’s been awhile since this bathroom has been fully functional; drab and dirty colors coupled with debris on the floor and a lack of running water leave us running for other options when it comes to cleaning up before or after work.
The first order of business was some debris clean up, followed by the removal of all broken and outdated fixtures in anticipation of fully restoring both function and beauty to this bath. Demolition work came in at just under a third of the budget, with clean up and labor costs coming in at nearly $3000.
After: Clean And Inviting
Estimated Cost: $9300
The striking contrast of floor and walls is apparent the moment you step into this refreshing oasis; turquoise patterned floor tile was installed for around $2500. The need to move around some fixtures and reroute plumbing took another $1200, while the finishing work of paint and trim rounded out the whole project nicely.
No longer a health hazard to step into, the space has been completely revamped with the use of neutral color, eye-catching tile, and classy accents such as towels, essential oils, and greenery. It has become a place to relax and refresh, no longer giving us the urge to do some additional scrubbing after setting foot in the room.
Before: Old Tile, Old Feeling
While the former decor of this bathroom is well-coordinated, it definitely dates this space. A refreshing breath of decorative design is needed to make this bathroom more attractive and usable once more.
With every detail from floor tiles to decorative towels considered, contractors and homeowners collaborated to reinvent the space and breathe new design life into this bath. Contractors estimated that for some of the changes that were planned, they needed about $6000 to complete the work.
After: Airy And Spacious
Estimated Cost: $13,800
This pleasing space is courtesy of some truly innovative and creative thinking. An $800 floating vanity is one of the many upgrades that exist in this refreshing oasis; installation of a dark teak-looking laminate for around $1000 adds class and depth to the room. With thoughtful accents like an $80 throw rug and some charming accents, it is truly a masterpiece.
What a transformation–floating vanities, bright lighting, and dark wood all contribute to a more spacious, airy feeling that could easily expand to encompass the rest of the home’s interior. You might just be fighting for mirror time in this beautifully transformed room.
Before: Colorful Surprise
Although the vivid color on the walls of this bathroom is attractive to some, it’s not for everyone. Any choice of vivid color in a room tends to date it, and the addition of dark wood makes the bathroom seem somewhat stagnant and oppressive. It’s time for a change.
This bathroom might have been appropriate in an early 19th century Victorian, or a fully restored mansion dating back to the 1930s, but it simply doesn’t fit in the decor of the current home. From floor to ceiling, renovators went to work transforming the space into something grand and modern.
After: Breath Of Fresh Air
Estimated Cost: $15,000
Attention was given to every last detail of this renovation. The design team went with a classic black and white theme, starting with the classic hexagon tile floor, which cost homeowners around $3500. Letting more light into the space started with the simple makeover of window covers, which cost about $150. A classy and contrasting black and white paint design on the walls ties in other elements quite nicely, and the addition of some breathtaking black French doors came in at around $700.
Classy clean lines and contrasting light and dark fixtures—not to mention the breathtaking black French doors–make this little space sparkle with personality. Incorporation of smaller amounts of muted colors allows for a bit of personal expression in this Victorian-style home.
Before: Uffda
This space is perfect—-if you love hues of baby blue and turquoise. Unfortunately, these bright colors don’t jive well with the bland and boring wood choices and hardware adorning the walls; something simply must go.
By far one of the more expensive aspects of this renovation would be tile breakdown and removal from walls and vanity. Laborers charged homeowners nearly $5000 for this difficult and messy job, but the end result was well worth it in light of the changes and what they added to the overall value of the home.
After: Ahhh
Estimated Cost: $18,000
With some reconstructive sheet rock and a professional paint job costing around $3000, there is no whisper of the former blue tile that dated the room so dramatically. A $700 two-stage vanity provides charm and additional counter space for those extra toiletries, while a pleasing dark tile pattern on the floor adds some welcome contrast to the light palette.
Clean up the walls, get rid of the tired old wood, and voila–you have a space that is worthy of your “me” time. A lighter blue wall provides a muted peek of color, while dark coffee hues of wood stand in stark contrast to lighter, cleaner colors and scintillating accents. What a welcome change.
Before: Tile, Tile, And More Tile
While a seasoned tile mason may not cringe when contemplating this renovation, it is enough to cause the average homeowner some anxiety as they think about replacing all of that tile for something more relevant. Tile removal and sheet rock installation will become a large part of this makeover budget, around $4000.
This bathroom is in need of a makeover–not only are tiles hard to clean, but the space needs to be expanded on in order to make it more user friendly for occupants of this home. Can the thousands of tiny tiles be permeated to make way for something fresh and new? Stay tuned to find out.
After: An Optical Illusion Of More Space
Estimated Cost: $10,500
An updated, clean tile design with colorful accents adds personality to this space, costing homeowners a little over $2500. With the addition of a shower where there wasn’t one before, there was about $3000 left to play with to finish out the whole room. Could they do it, and do it well?
Although they did tear out a wall to make room for an additional shower in this bathroom, contractors also decided to do away with the outdated tile, replacing it with fresh, clean white tile accented with gorgeous color. The use of white in combination with some strategically placed accent colors does add the illusion of more space, a welcome change from the oppressive look and feel of the former decor.
Before: Once Upon A Time
Maybe a few decades ago, the pink and dark brown accents in this bathroom would have been considered sheik and attractive, but this is no longer the case. The color combination is a major offender and the reason that this space is in need of a makeover.
With the layout of the room and the placement of the fixtures staying in the same place, all that was needed was some thought around how to refresh and redesign the look of this bath, giving it a more modern and efficient feel.
After: Ultra Stylish
Estimated Cost: $5300
Breathtaking iridescent and gold accents highlight an exciting new shower experience, costing $3200 once installed. The use of a starkly contrasted black tile adds both depth and flair; it captures your eye almost immediately upon entering the space. A $600 black Italian marble countertop sits atop a black vanity that complements both color on the walls and the clean, new toilet, which also got an upgrade.
Thanks to some good bones, there was no need to radically alter the layout of this bathroom. Instead, all fixtures got a makeover–with the use of some clever contrast intermixed with color and some classy accent pieces, this is one makeover that will stand the test of time.
Before: Black Is Not Always Best
Although the design concept of this bathroom is not garish and outdated, the installation of black tile on the walls makes it seem cramped and oppressive. Perhaps a dash of lighter color on the walls will open up this otherwise acceptable floor design.
Both renovators and homeowners went to work, tearing out massive amounts of tile and hauling out bag after bag of old masonry. With the tough stuff now behind them, it was time to conceptualize what they wanted the new bath to look like, and how they could best use their budget for purchasing and installing new fixtures and furniture.
After: A Clean Scene
Estimated Cost: $12,800
While black and white is appropriate for some spaces, it seemed too cramped in this former space. The different textures of shower tile, the $3000 hexagon tile floor, and clean white accents on the walls add layers of texture, making the space more interesting to the eye.
The addition of some white wainscoting, classic subway tile in the bath, and white storage cabinets, the entire feel of the space is clean and efficient. Not a single black tile can be found, and the bathroom feels open and spacious.
Before: Lacking In Personality
While considered an acceptable bathroom design by most, this space lacks storage potential and personality, two aspects of a bathroom that savvy homeowners now demand. What will become of bland walls and basic fixtures?
A standard bathroom blue that had been characteristic of powder rooms in the 80s and 90s needed a facelift, while nothing less than complete and total layout redesign and new fixture purchase was necessary to give the homeowners the exact look that they desired.
After: Self-Care Oasis
Estimated Cost: $13,000
The removal of blue in the former decor gave way to a beautiful warm cream paint job, which cost about $300. It contrasts beautifully with the brilliant white of other fixtures in the bathroom, from the $950 white and black vanity to the stunning black subway tile in the shower and tub, which cost around $3000. One of the more expensive aspects of this upgrade was the room layout renovation and fixture installation, which cost nearly $6500.
Now this is some kicked up bathroom space–a stunning tub and shower combination, sleek vanity and custom-built shelves make this an oasis for self-care, pampering and preening. Plenty of storage room and personality are evident in this bathroom’s design; it will be hard to find a family member who doesn’t find this room inviting.
Before: It’s Not Easy Being Green
Green usually indicates fresh, clean vibes in design, but in this case, the presence of a green bathtub tells us that this cramped, cluttered space is in dire need of a design makeover. Time for the dark, dingy and crowded space to be transformed into something pleasing to behold.
And we’re not quite sure what’s going on with the red accent on yellow tile; as old colors are exchanged in favor of a new, modern palette, the whole space will no doubt look and feel completely refreshed.
After: Keeping Some Green And Feeling Clean
Estimated Cost: $9000
A large portion of the design budget went to the tearing out and re-installation of some brand new, clean white tile, which cost around $4800. A charming black accent in the shower provides a pleasing respite to light colors while complementing a dark color scheme on the floor. Designers swapped out the old floating sink and replaced it with a newer, larger model, costing around $400 to install.
New slate flooring and white wainscoting give this newly transformed bathroom a classic and timeless feeling. Classic, clean tile in the shower is accented by the homeowner’s favorite color–a contemporary green shower curtain. The result is a fresh, renovated space that is used and enjoyed by all.
Before: Garish Grandeur
A bright aqua tub may be the stuff of would-be mermaids everywhere, but it simply doesn’t work in this space any longer. A plain white shower curtain cuts right through the clutter, making the room seem smaller than it already is. Something must be done to bring the whole room together.
With too many patterns in the tub and on the floor, and some large imposing pieces taking up space in the bath, the whole room is in need of some more space and a more cohesive color scheme. Let’s see what can be done with some innovative craftsmanship.
After: Breathtaking Beauty
Estimated Cost: $14,800
After beholding this new space, it is evident that some patterns just work well together. A classic black and white floor tile starts the renovation at around $3000, while the formation of ornate, rich pattern on the walls cost around $2000 to install. A $1500 faux marble vanity that has a one of a kind shape to it adorns one wall, being both beautiful and functional in this recreated space.
This dramatic transformation is courtesy of some breathtaking tile that adorns walls from floor to ceiling. The contrast of black and white flooring with brass fixtures gives one a feeling of opulence and affluence; soaking in the tub after a long day at work would be simply divine.
Before: Nothing To See Here
If it weren’t for the utilitarian need of this bathroom space, no one would be entering here. Basic white everywhere, nothing to see in the way of personality, and less than ideal layout make the perfect drop for forgettable decor.
This bath could easily be something found in a gas station or retail location, but it is not the kind of decor that most homeowners dream of when conceptualizing their dream renovation. It’s time for some color and personality.
After: Pint-Sized Pizazz
Estimated Cost: $8600
A custom-color paint job on the walls provides the perfect backdrop for personality, costing around $800. The use of sleek tile on the floor provides additional textures to this small space and cost less than $1500 to install. New fixtures such as an updated toilet, a stunning $500 vanity and some well-appointed accents add more excitement in the new space.
Completely new and contemporary flooring, a pop of some serious color on the walls, and updated fixtures transform this pint-sized space into a room that is actually pleasant to use. The whole look comes together to provide a seamless and satisfying renovation.
Before: Renovation Resuscitation
While this old space has some lasting elements of charm, it is unclear as to whether this bathroom remains functional, or if some installation interventions must occur in order for homeowners to be able to use and enjoy once more.
This bathroom has seen better days; it seems as if certain aspects of this space will not hold up against heavy use. Will the existing floor hold up under the ancient tub? Only the most daring renovation experts must enter.
After: New Life With Old-School Charm
Estimated Cost: $10,300
Using existing elements like a newly refurbished wood floor, an updated claw-foot tub, and old-fashioned shower curtain rods lend a certain old-school charm to this newly fortified space. It’s now no longer considered dangerous to use this space, and all who enter can enjoy a bit of ambience with their morning shower.
Design geniuses and bathroom visionaries were able to hold on to some of those old-world elements and provide a unique spin on the space. A $2000 claw foot tub is at the helm of this vintage feel, while a stunning hardwood-like floor provides additional warmth and beauty at around $4000. A clean, black and white backdrop provides the perfect canvas for some seasonal artwork and knick knacks, depending on the homeowner’s flight of fancy.
Before: Nothing Special To Behold
While this bathroom space fulfills basic functions of a bathroom, it offers none of the panache and pizzazz that one would see in a newly renovated space. Neutral colors and dark wood contribute to a less than rejuvenating self-care experience.
The good news is, there was plenty of space to work with when designing a new look for this bath, and with a generous starting budget, homeowners had the luxury of choosing premium materials for their upgraded powder room.
After: Expanding And Upgrading
Estimated Cost: $12,000
An elegant glass shower was installed in the new bath for just under $3000. A new vanity with an upgraded, larger sink was installed, making clean up easier and more efficient. Vanity installation cost $1200, and as details such as color and accents were added, giving the room a light and spacious feel.
New, fresh pops of color, a stunning quartz countertop, and beautifully tiled shower walls and floor all create a look of opulence and refreshment. Every detail has been lovingly attended to, from the color on the walls to accent pieces of art and decor that bring the whole space together in a refreshing way.
Before: Unusable
It is apparent that whomever started this renovation didn’t have the vision–or the strength–to finish the job. While some of the prep work has been done, there is a need for basic fixtures in order for this bathroom space to be usable.
Contractors started by deciding where new fixtures should go, and with rerouting of plumbing and electrical wiring, the heavy work was done. It was time to give some attention to what kind of look homeowners were looking for.
After: Working With Beautiful Originals
Estimated Cost: $8500
With careful attention given to the architectural style of the home itself, homeowners wanted to retain some of the more charming elements of the space and pay homage to its former glory. Restoration of wood elements was performed, costing around $1100 when both window and door were finished. An antique-looking floor was installed for $2900, and a floating faux marble vanity pulled elements of style and vintage charm in for around $900
Bringing in some of those original and beautiful aspects of the space, we were able to give the whole room a completely new and different feeling. Breathtaking woodwork, refurbished tile, and some new fixtures breathe new life into this space while capturing some of its antique charm.
Before: Closed In And Cloying
There is a time and a place for strong color preferences in decorating, and it is time for this vibrant turquoise to go. The color somehow makes the space seem smaller, and it does little for the surrounding white fixtures that stand in solidarity against the dated decor.
While it seems that many of the existing fixtures in this bath are still functional, the need for a style upgrade necessitated both repair and/or replacement as needed. Transformation was able to take place at an impressive price of under $5000, when all was said and done.
After: Clean And Cheerful
Estimated Cost: $3800
Some updated fixtures, a touch of neutral color, and fresh paint on the window add an air of additional space to this small oasis. Colorful and strategically placed flowers add a cheerful, open vibe and invite you to enter for a splash, a soak, or a sensory experience.
Updated lighting fixtures took the 80s right out of this room; recessed and vanity fixtures cost around $500. With a mellowed paint job and some touch ups on existing white, designers were able to create a completely different look for around $1000. As the existing floor and shower/tub were in good condition, they took a good scrubbing and some minor repair, which came in at around $500. This fresh, clean oasis is now a joy to use and experience.
Before: Purely Utilitarian
Bland color combinations and uninspired layout design make this bathroom unappealing both to look at and to use. There is nothing structurally wrong with the room, which means that designers and homeowners will have more budget money to put toward personalizing and beautifying the space without breaking the bank.
The combination of neutral walls and white fixtures make this one seriously uninspired bathroom. Another aspect of this space that fails to impress is the combination floor, which can only be given credit to renovators who considered the job too much to handle.
After: Fresh And Clean
Estimated Cost: $3600
The first item of business is floor replacement, which cost $1500. Designers added a soft, complementary blue to the walls for a cool $500, and additional aspects of personalization and new storage space were added to complete the new, updated look.
While not too much tearing down was needed in this space, the addition of some fresh color, uniform tile across the floor, and charming greenery and carefully chosen accents contribute to a pleasing and palatable presentation.
Before: Too Much In Too Little
The combination of bland-ish tile in such a small space contributes to a cluttered and disheveled look, leaving room for some improvements. We’ll see what kind of bang we can get for our buck in this pint-sized place.
First thing’s first—time to take down the dingy yellow tile on the walls and do some patching and repairing, all for the tidy price of around $1500. Once the basic wall structure was in place, beautifying became easy and fun.
After: Tiny Transformation, Big Difference
Estimated Cost: $2700
A fresh new wall scape costing around $1100 helped to give this room a completely different feel. Some extra, economical storage space costing less than $50 adds an element of smart and savvy use of space.
While not much was done with the skeletal structure of this bathroom, replacing the tile with classic wainscoting that blends easily with surrounding walls completely transforms the space into something clean and efficient. The smart addition of a basket adds points for decor and for additional storage space. Very smart.
Before: Grim Prospects
Basement bathrooms are rarely something to celebrate; this skeletal structure provides the perfect backdrop for some design inspiration, but there are a few minor clean up tasks that must be performed in order to bring this space to its full potential.
The space itself is the stuff that horror movie scenes are made of. Dark and dreary, this Tudor-style cottage bathroom was begging to be transformed. There is plenty of room for expansion and improvement; let’s see how it was turned around.
After: Bright And Cheerful
Estimated Cost: $12,500
Classic, large-patterned hexagon tile adorns the new floor, and it was a steal at just under $2000 installed. A design choice that not many would have made was the addition of some bright and colorful wallpaper, which cost $1000. The creation of a new shower space and vanity movement took up a large portion of the budget, coming in at around $5000.
Thanks in part to the addition of a quartz countertop and some incredibly cheerful turquoise wallpaper, this dark and spooky space has been transformed into something light and bright. A classically clean tile floor adds the crowning touch on this quaint space.
Before: Institutional At Best
This before photo has the unique claim of over 39 demolition bags that went straight to the landfill after renovation began. This lackluster space needed a facelift, from top to tiled floor. No stone or fixture was left unturned as the work began.
Tile, fixtures, and all decor were removed to make way for new inspirational choices. Homeowners stripped it almost down to the bare studs before starting to construct the space of their dreams.
After: Modern Marvel
Estimated Cost: $13,800
A striking turquoise countertop and black marble vanity is the centerpiece of this brave DIY remodel, costing about $2000 once installed. Reconstruction of the wall around the window took up a large portion of the remodel budget at nearly $4000. A warm ceiling in combination with cool tones on the floor forms a truly unique look.
Although it took a fair amount of time, over 90 percent of this bathroom remodel can be credited to the homeowner, who proudly displays her work every time guests come over. With the help of a licensed plumber, they put the finishing touches on fixtures, bringing the space from dysfunctional to delightful.
Before: Seriously Outdated
Although this 30s art-deco has its place in the bathroom hall of fame, the owner of the property decided that she’d had enough of the cracked tiles and less than optimal plumbing. Even though she was somewhat fond of the pink tile herself, it had to go in favor of a more modern renovation.
Demolition began, with tile being strategically removed, along with the tub, vanity, and flooring. Everything had to go in order to recreate the space. The homeowner wanted to have elements of style that were in keeping with the architectural style of the house, so fixtures and decor were very carefully chosen.
After: Classy and Vintage-Inspired
Estimated Cost: $14,000
The combination of a glass shower and a breathtaking tub are quite impressive, both fixtures were installed for around $6000. The use of classic subway tile, vintage-inspired flooring, and a custom-fitted $1400 vanity and countertop frame the room in a classic style that begs to be used and enjoyed.
This period sensitive remodel took into account some of the historical features of the original bathroom while upgrading all fixtures and making them beautiful and functional. Vintage-inspired floor tiles, subway tile, and a Caesarstone tub all add to a light and airy feeling that pays homage to what it used to be.
Before: Too Furry To Be Functional
While throw rugs and thick plush towels have carved their unique place into bathroom history, the look of this old bathroom is far too outdated to last much longer. Time to bring in leaner, cleaner lines and more sanitary flooring once and for all.
This bathroom has elements of Las Vegas hotel written all over it; a brass-accented shower stall and some over-the-top greenery need to be re-evaluated as we construct a more modern look and feel to the space.
After: The Magic Touch
Estimated Cost: $10,000
Beautiful faux-stone tile highlights the shower wall perfectly and was relatively simple to install at around $2500. The addition of a $800 free-standing spa tub and warm wooden flooring complement the simplicity of soft yet beautiful wall color.
Lean and clean was accomplished; a frameless glass shower allows maximum light and space to be experienced; even in small spaces, the addition of this feature is a bonus. Muted colors and natural tiles on the shower wall and the floor pull the whole look together, giving one the impression of elegance.
Before: That 70s Show
Floral patterns are attractive—in small doses. This outdated bathroom is interesting in terms of layout, but some thought needs to be given with respect to its ease of use.
When renovators happened upon this bathroom, they found a space that was stylistically lacking and disorganized. Between the dark wood storage closet and the busy wallpaper, it was time for some upgrades and a return to modern times.
After: Amazing Transformation
Estimated Cost: $14,500
Renovators tore down this room and removed all old fixtures, taking nearly half the budget in demolition and clean up, costing around $6800. An extended vanity with additional seating for makeup and pampering took $2500 to install. A total space cleanup and clean paint job helped to contribute to the stellar upgrade.
This little beauty was a floor to ceiling operation, but it was well worth the effort. The addition of classic white subway tile and a glass shower adds cleanliness and spaciousness to the small room. A vintage stained-glass window insert adds a pop of color in an otherwise uniform room, contributing to a bright and cheery feel.
Before: White White Baby
White white everywhere; and not a drop of personality. Not only does it lack a certain warmth and inviting quality within the space, white decor is extremely difficult to keep clean. Even the best kept efforts to keep everything pristine start to crumble over time, and this bathroom is now past its prime.
This before look was considered classy and sought after in the 80s and 90s, but no more. Design experts decided that the whole look was “too white”, and they sought to bring in elements of personality and flair that were lacking.
After: Color Rich
Estimated Cost: $10,300
From floor to ceiling, this bathroom is alive and kicking with personality and color. A dark vanity stands in stark contrast to the vibrant floor tile, while elements of greenery and muted color on the walls perfectly balances the patterned rug and adds an element of earthiness to the space.
The flooring was relatively simple to install, from removal of the old to installation of this vibrant element, the total cost was kept under $4000. A $2000 double vanity and sink is a striking piece in this new environment, while everything is pulled together beautifully with the new shower and tub combination, which cost $3500. Smart, savvy choices led to an inspirational upgrade.
Before: Public Or Private?
Dated color on the walls and an institutional sink are in need of a makeover, yet the owner of this San Francisco home needed to perform a facelift on a budget. With the right knowledge and a few key elements, magic can be performed.
As always, tile removal and wall repair remain the most significant parts of this small budget, coming in at around $1400. Once that labor-intensive part had been completed, it was time to see what little changes could be made to leverage the greatest effect.
After: Wonder On A Budget
Estimated Cost: $3600
It’s hard to believe that this radical facelift cost under $5000; while the structure of the bathroom remained the same, the removal of tile and some well-placed flooring, a patterned shower curtain, and well placed tchotchkes turn this smallish space into a spa-like oasis.
Smart and efficient tile on the floor stayed under $1200, and the rest of the budget went toward adding little cosmetic touches that made a world of difference. All in all, the final cost was well under $5000, and the look is absolutely sensational.
Before: Untapped Potential
Most homeowners cringe when beholding all of the hidden potential of an unfinished basement. While most lack the vision to complete a successful remodel, one homeowner saw what was before him and gladly accepted the challenge.
There are some unique challenges that come with putting in a basement bathroom remodel. Issues like ventilation, extra moisture, and the need for natural lighting are all things that should be considered when making a subterranean space pleasing and functional.
After: Mission Complete
Estimated Cost: $11,400
Fortunately, this untapped potential meant that nothing needed demolition; transformation could begin with the blank slate basement. The addition of some contractor approved windows and a slipper tub transformed a corner of the basement into a luxurious and relaxing space.
Construction of walls and formation of windows that were up to code cost about $4000 of the total budget, while a $2000 tub was a luxury that the homeowner just had to put in, as the family enjoys their long and leisurely soaks. With complete fixtures such as a corner shower stall and a basic but beautiful vanity, this space is ready for use.
Before: Not Pretty In Pink
What is it about pink tile that enticed so many in the 50s and 60s? The sheer magnitude of having to remove not only wall tile, but floor tile, had both homeowner and contractors gearing up for quite a project.
As breakdown began, the renovators found themselves with more need for repair on their hands than originally anticipated. Close to $6000 went to the demolition and repair of current structures that would remain, with the rest of the renovation budget appropriated toward beautifying the new space.
After: Warm And Contemporary
Estimated Cost: $12,000
A new take on some old pink breathes new life into this space. Customized cabinetry and storage space provide for optimal organization of all your cleaning supplies and toiletries, all for the bargain price of $2500. The space is polished off with a complementary tile on the floor that is both moisture and stain resistant, costing the homeowner around $1400.
Once the tile came down, the rest of the renovation was quite simple. The installation of a warm wood countertop and vanity complete with some extra storage space forms the focal point of a newly renovated and completely modern bathroom. As for the pink…..it’s still there, it’s just more socially acceptable this time around.
Before: Clash Of The Tiles
The dated look of wallpaper that does not complement shower tile has both homeowner and contractor dreaming of a simpler design. Needing to let go of period-specific decor will help to align this bathroom with the rest of the home’s distinctive design.
Wallpaper and tiles both clashing, it took some time to remove both in such a way that preserved the foundation underneath. The small tub had to go too, as it had served its time with small family members who had outgrown it.
After: Natural Is Beautiful
Estimated Cost: $10,500
A breathtaking frameless shower and natural stone tile add class and elegance to this space for the bargain price of $3200. Careful thought and consideration were put into every element of the design, from wall color to the $650 luxury bath rug that adds a pop of color to the floor.
Bringing in elements of natural stone perfectly complements the rest of the home’s decor and its hundred-year history. Beautifully appointed fixtures and lots of natural light streaming in through a classic window open up the space quite nicely.
Before: Blue Bleh
The century-old brownstone that this bathroom lives in simply does not jive with period-specific blue. It’s time to align with the building’s history and bring in elements of design that nod to the 1910s, with a modern flair.
The structure of the room itself will remain the same, although removal of the tub and an upgraded sink are in order to make the room seem updated and more spacious.
After: Nod To Simpler Times
Estimated Cost: $9700
Combination wall and floor tile make up the bulk of this design cost, at nearly $4000. The addition of a $1700 clawfoot tub, a pedestal sink, and other well-coordinated elements give an old-world vintage charm with new world functionality.
With only 36 square feet of space in this little oasis, design experts chose classic elements like subway tile, antique floor tile, and a pedestal sink to complete an antique-modern look. Polished chrome fixtures help the room sparkle with light, and the clawfoot tub remains the central focal point of this beautified space.
Before: Granny Loves It
We’ve all seen style like this—in grandmother’s house. Dingy tile, garish wallpaper, and a countertop that doesn’t jive with anything else in the room complete a look that we’d rather forget. While decor like this was all the rage in the 80s, it’s time for a redo.
While there is an element of nostalgia that comes with viewing a room setup like this, over time it can create the urge to experience modern convenience and beautiful scenery, even if it is in a bathroom.
After: Sleek And Stylish
Estimated Cost: $12,000
Grandma will love what you’ve done with the place, and she might even take a few inspired decorating tips back home with her to play with as she contemplates her own renovation. Replacing tired fixtures with classy and functional pieces will provide timeless beauty in an unlikely place.
A $2000 double vanity with a faux-granite countertop is framed by a pair of breathtaking framed mirrors. Walls were refreshed with a lovely warm taupe for around $700, and a $2200 wooden floor provides a more spa-like experience for the user. This is a beautiful, refreshing upgrade to an old and tired space.
Before: Too Floral
Too many flowers are the least of the many worries surrounding this tired old bathroom. Shaggy pink carpet, overzealous floral wallpaper, and a brass-framed shower contribute to a very dated look that needs some upgrading.
It was decided that the basic structure of this bath would remain the same, and while playing around with finish and fixtures, renovators were able to completely revitalize the room without breaking the bank. Here’s what they got.
After: Earth Tone Oasis
Estimated Cost: $8800
The addition of some beautiful stone backsplash around the tub cost homeowners around $1100, and this compliments repainted brass fixtures. All former brass fixtures were refinished to look antiqued and bronzed for the small price of $75. The crowning glory of this upgrade is the tumbled marble floor, which replaces the old carpeting for only $2300.
Leaving the basic structure of this bathroom in place helped to keep renovation costs down; the addition of elemental earth tones and some greenery breathe new life into this beautiful space. From top to bottom, every detail of this renovation communicates relaxation and refreshment.
Before: Hit Or Miss
Peeling tile, crumbling vanity structures, and dark and dirty paint are not the building blocks of a rejuvenating bathroom. Are we in a dilapidated basement theater dressing room or a residential bath? Either way, it’s time to get out.
The good news is, with a bathroom in this state, there was very little left to do but to patch things up and build things anew. Once the old fixtures were removed, it was time to build things back up into something more beautiful and functional.
After: Right On The Money
Estimated Cost: $7800
A customized paint job to the tune of $1100 covers the walls in floor to ceiling in a gorgeous periwinkle blue. This complements the Italian marble vanity, which was installed for just under $900. The use of deep browns and lush greens in the space do wonders to offset the cool color portrayed throughout. The rest of this makeover budget was spent on the addition of some brand-new tile flooring, window upgrades, and charming accents that make the space come alive.
Who says a makeover has to break the bank? The addition of some kicking color, brushed nickel fixtures, proper lighting and Italian marble as the crowning touch make this the perfect place to relax, refresh, and unwind.
Before: Single And Looking
Although the original bathroom was functional and not too unpleasant, this busy family was looking for ways to expand in the current space and make it more accessible to many. Will this single sink stay single? Stay tuned to see if expansion is in the cards.
Ideally, one of their “must haves” in the new space was going to be a longer vanity with a dual sink, but they weren’t sure if they’d have to get something custom-made because of space constraints. As they began their renovation, they found the perfect one for their new upgrade.
After: Dynamic Duality
Estimated Cost: $7000
The farmhouse-inspired upgrade made room for expansion and improvement. Dual sinks, mirrors, and upgraded fixtures provide a charming quality while retaining its functional feel. A beautiful renovation has become something that all family members can use and enjoy.
Fortunately, the vanity was well within budget range, coming in at just under $2000. A pair of lovely arched mirrors completes this wall perfectly; the pair cost $250. Additional new elements of inspired design included a hardwood-looking laminate that cost $1800 to install as well as new light fixtures. The entire look was spot on from top to bottom.
Before: Blase Beige
This bathroom had good bones, but it was a bit boring and blase. Bland tile, beige woodwork and yellowish walls provide a blank canvas for design innovation and renovation potential.
Homeowners had an innovative design concept cooking–they wanted to capture and renovate some salvaged pieces of metal, repurposed household items, and other unique materials to make their space a one-of-a-kind recreation. It appears that they were successful.
After: Vintage Charm
Estimated Cost: $8800
A standard, $800 dollar vanity and standing sink were completely transformed by the addition of distressed license plates on the front of each door. When used in combination with other elements that were used creatively, it makes a truly unique bathroom upgrade. The addition of a new $500 light coffee paint job, some new flooring, and additional decor touches adds to the charm of this new space.
The fun and frivolous vanity adorned with license plates provides the perfect focal point for surrounding clean and classic fixtures. We are constantly surprised by little elements of decor that add to the overall charm of this room, like the yardstick-framed mirror and the stepladder used as a makeshift towel rack. Somehow, these eclectic elements all work together and provide a unique and amazing transformation.
Before: Nauseous Pastels
No more of the Pepto pink, please! While it had its place in bathroom decor decades ago, its shabby character is now less than relaxing, and begs to receive some TLC as we transform the space into something magically modern.
Pulling out the tile and upgrading the window were some of the first steps in transition; labor costs were kept low as the homeowners became intimately involved in the demolition process. When it came time to install new elements correctly, however, they turned to the experts for some money-saving tips and assistance.
After: Impressive Updates
Estimated Cost: $6700
From the $1400 hardwood-looking floor tile to bright white in tile and wainscoting, this bathroom has received a classy makeover. The $1100 Italian marble vanity did much to elevate the space as well; each piece was chosen with the intention to create something truly unique and special.
Renovators managed to keep some of the bathroom’s original charm, while providing crisp updates like gleaming white subway tile, rich wood flooring, and an updated vanity. Thoughtfully placed accents and wall decor bring the whole room together with a feeling of cheerful airiness, making it the perfect place to stop and preen.
Before: Beach Bland
There is a time and a place for beach decor in a bathroom, and unfortunately this room falls short of a vacation expectation. Palm trees and a few well-placed shells do not contribute to a classy look that stands the test of time. Time for some reinvention.
Beach decor is something that should be given much thought; simply placing items from your sun-filled days in a bowl makes your space look thrown together and haphazard. When thinking about how best to reflect your love of sand and sun, consider what this renovation team created.
After: Patterns With Pizzazz
Estimated Cost: $2200
A bold and beautiful striped paint pattern sets the backdrop for a beautiful renovation. New paint on the existing vanity and the addition of a complementary shower curtain provide a classy upgrade without breaking the bank. Adding some well-chosen artwork and a few functional accent pieces that act as storage help to complete a refreshing design.
While there are no obvious beach tchotchkes lying around in this new space, the $700 bold and beautiful striped paint pattern sets the tone for a casual good time. Rather than purchasing a new vanity altogether, homeowners chose to reinvent their existing one, investing around $200 in paint and new hardware that completely transformed the look of the room.
Before: Dark And Damp
Dark walls and even darker fixtures in this small bathroom make the space seem cramped and oppressive. Even though this is considered a guest bathroom, it doesn’t provide guests with a welcome feel.
The first thing that contractors tackled was removal and replacement of old fixtures. The dated vanity was swapped out with something clean and bright; as the couple’s four adult sons had now left the nest, there was no longer a need for dual sinks, so they were able to save close to $1000 on its installation.
After: Light And Bright
Estimated Cost: $9000
From floor to ceiling, this new room is a bright delight; a $1500 ceramic tile floor forms a beautiful base for the rest of the upgrades. A $3000 frameless glass shower forms a beautiful focal point for the room and allows plenty of natural light to stream through.
A new color palette and some fixture upgrades made all the difference in this small space. The combination of a warm grey tone on the walls with white limestone fixtures and textured tile allow for plenty of light to dance around the room. This clean renovation is a welcome change for guests and family members alike.
Before: Blue Hoo
Not only is this tile outdated and dingy, it provides a dark backdrop for a shower that is leaky and dysfunctional. It is time to bring everything up to code and provide a better experience for the mother and daughter that occupy this home.
Sitting down with designers, the duo decided that they wanted a much more neutral palette for their upgraded bathroom, but that they were willing to go with some daring elements as well to provide depth and personality to the space.
After: Customized Bliss
Estimated Cost: $6300
The use of gleaming white subway tile and custom cabinetry built specifically for this homeowner’s storage needs is just what the design doctor ordered. A breathtaking floor tile design and clean elements in combination with plenty of natural light make the perfect backdrop for a candlelit bubble bath.
Running neck and neck for cost in this efficient upgrade were the flooring and the upgraded shower/tub combo, both coming in at around $1500 apiece. Thanks to the innovation of a local wood craftsman, homeowners were able to procure the customized cabinet for around $1000. With clean lines and pops of color, it is a beautifully done renovation.
Before: Not Worth The View
While this bathroom’s fixtures were in good shape, the 1983 construction left new homeowners with little to be desired. Outdated decor was in need of some modern design intervention, and the owners set to work building the bathroom of their dreams.
Working with a smaller budget, homeowners decided to jump in and learn a few things about demolition and renovation. They set to work designing the bathroom of their dreams on their shoestring funds.
After: Dream Design On A Budget
Estimated Cost: $1000
Although it appears that these upgrades cost much more than their budget allows, this is proof that working on projects rather than hiring out can save hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Surprisingly, this DIY renovation resembles something out of a design magazine. Everything was ripped out except for the tub and shower, and the homeowners set to work cutting wood for shiplap that added charm to the walls, a project that cost around $300. A new double vanity for the bargain price of $375 and some sleek subway tile in the existing shower were all done on a dime, and it’s quite a sight to behold.
Before: Over Cluttered And Uninspired
This 45 square foot oasis is too cluttered and not inspiring enough–to make matters worse, it is situated near a kitchen that has been recently renovated, and the styles of decor simply don’t align.
A new color palette and some more inspired pieces are necessary in order to bring this bathroom out of the 80s and into the new millenium, or so the work is at least comparable to the design of the rest of the home.
After: Clean And Pristine
Estimated Cost: $9900
One might think by looking at the ornate wall design that it ate up a major portion of the design budget, but renovators were able to completely transform the look of the space for just under $3000. The rest of the new fixtures–shower, toilet, and vanity, cost around $3500 when fully installed. All of these elements add to a wonderful new space that is classy and timeless.
The floating toilet and vanity are nestled against a backdrop of stunning statuario marble tile. Choosing to opt for more space, the homeowners decided to swap out the shower/tub combo with the walk-in glass shower that is equally as impressive to behold. This look is quite the change from the former design, to be sure.
Before: Failing And Flailing
This bathroom sports a fallen towel rack, leaky pipes, and a host of other functional issues make this not only undesirable, but a downright dangerous place to spend your primping time. In addition to making the necessary safety improvements, it’s time for an upgrade as well.
The first thing to go was the strangely shaped vanity, which left designers wondering how functional it could be as it tapered off toward one end. It took up too much room, and in addition to other outdated fixtures, it had to go.
After: Cool And Efficient
Estimated Cost: $7000
A much more beautiful and functional vanity was installed for the reasonable price of $350, and it complemented the new faux marble floor, which looks much more expensive than it actually was. At the installation price of around $1800, it ties other elements in the room together quite nicely. The other big-ticket item in this upgrade was the shower; designers chose to add customized shelves within faux porcelain tile, which cost around $2000 to complete.
As it turns out, less is more when it comes to completely re-inventing this space. The new porcelain look of the shower and imitation marble on the floor add an air of opulence and elegance to the cool blue and soft white hues that pull everything together. Charming artwork and clever accents transform from drab to fab.
Before: A Sad Affair
No one wants to shower amidst bare studs; it seems that what started as an honest renovation intention turned sour as the former project was shelved. Thankfully, this space is rarely used, as the only two assets that were working were the sink and the towel bar.
As design concepts were pondered, the family’s primary goal was turning this space from basement bathroom dreariness to something that would be considered main floor acceptable as well. The game was on.
After: Streamlined And Fully Functional
Estimated Cost: $9000
A customized shower complete with vibrant color cost around $2500 to construct, while other elements such as the floating vanity—complete with extra shelf space, was a joy to install at around $1100. The stark contrast of clean black and white and the pristine new toilet complete the look as functional and enviable by upstairs bathroom standards.
What a difference some design innovations make! Modern fixtures complete with storage space are accented with the family’s signature yellow color to make a bold and daring statement. What started as a partially functional bath has turned out to be a desirable space for all to use and enjoy.
Before: Uncomfortable Ambiance
The bathroom in this empty nester home is still used for adult daughters visiting regularly, as well as the occasional guest. It seems that the children weren’t the only ones who outgrew the bathroom decor; an uncomfortable tub and outdated toilet are at the helm of this less than perfect design.
This cramped and uncomfortable space was in need of expansion, even if it was for the empty nesters still living in the home. As plans took shape, the couple decided to add more space to the room so that they could design the bathroom of their dreams.
After: Impeccable Design
Estimated Cost: $11,400
The need for expansion and demolition of existing fixtures took up a major part of the renovation budget, at around $6500. From there, homeowners took joy in placing a smart and savvy new tile floor valued at around $1700, a gorgeous new vanity, and clean new tub design for $2800. All of this was money well spent when considering the refreshing new look.
The starring role in this bathroom redesign is of course played by the breathtaking black and white floor tile, while elements such as the double vanity, updated mirrors, and open glass tub/shower balance and pull a whole stylish look together. When looking upon the entire masterpiece at once, it begs to be experienced, not merely used for function only.
Before: Gloomy And Glum
While the look of the black veined tile would have been acceptable in small doses, it simply did not work when covering more than half the small walls in this bathroom. Something had to be lightened up, and quick.
Taking out both wall and floor tile was a dirty job, but necessary; this part of the project took nearly $4000 as a new, cleaner and brighter look was conceptualized. The dark was putting a damper not only on the overall ambiance, but it made the entire room seem smaller than it actually was.
After: Gleefully Clean
Estimated Cost: $8400
New classic hexagon tile on the floor cost homeowners around $1800 installed, but it was the perfect move to lighten and brighten up the space. From there, designers paired a beautiful $800 teak-walled tub and some elements of the homeowners’ personal style to create something truly unique.
Bright white on both the floor and on the shower wall is accented well with natural teak and gold accents, adding to the sophistication of this renovated space. Personal style choices such as the boho rug, a paisley shower curtain, and well-selected pieces of art add warmth and charm to a clean, blank canvas.
Before: Dull And Tired
The combination of yellows, beiges, and dark wood make this entire space look old, dull and tired as the dated towels hanging on the hook. We appreciate the effort of adding color to this photo, but it’s time for a more strategic approach to this renovation.
Taking the time to partner with some design visionaries, the homeowner’s decided to go out on a limb and put some bold color in their new space, starting with the $2200 floor. It was well worth the risk, as far as we’re concerned.
After: Fresh And Vibrant
Estimated Cost: $7300
Old fixtures were torn out and the place was prepped for new design inspiration. After the installation of the floor, it was decided that the only thing that could perfectly complement the breathtaking blue was a custom-built piece of equal uniqueness. The beautiful vanity cost $1200 to craft and install.
A design-hungry eye immediately goes to the vibrant blue hexagon tile, which needs equally impressive features to pull off its intended effect. Designers are truly grateful for finding someone who could customize a vanity with storage space that would be beautiful and functional at the same time. The end result was magical.
Before: Basic Master
After this master bathroom was added to an existing floor plan, it was quickly determined that the dated decor wouldn’t last very long. A challenging layout and some dark fixtures had to go in favor of a fresh new look:
With some fixture removal and the addition of more classic and neutral elements, this master bath redo will be relevant and visually appealing for years to come. Not only is it more enjoyable for homeowners, it provides additional value to the home.
After: Expansive And Inviting
Estimated Cost: $9800
Crowning touches on this renovation include the $2200 floor, which was quite unique, and the installation of a new frameless glass shower, which was installed for $3500. A beautiful vanity and framed double mirrors help to open up the space and make it seem light, airy, and much more spacious.
With the addition of the kicking floor tile and well-chosen modern decor, this bathroom has been completely transformed from bland and basic to exciting and inviting. Water resistant white tiles throughout bring in some extra brightness to the space, while a beautifully patterned floor tile finishes off this elegant look perfectly.
Before: Institutional
There is nothing special or distinguishing about the floor plan and decor of this tired bathroom. Not only does it stand in a state of disrepair, it is less than inspiring to be surrounded by broken fixtures, soiled tile and dingy color.
First to come out was the tiny vanity, which was so small it must have been difficult to use. From floor to ceiling, all fixtures were removed and the space was gutted and prepared for new and beautiful renovation.
After: Sensational
Estimated Cost: $6300
A beautiful standing sink replaced the shrinking vanity for around $650. Breathtaking new tile in the shower stands in beautiful contrast to the natural wood of a very unique mirror, which homeowners picked up for around $300. Beautifully laid ceramic tile lines the floor, installed for under $2000. These thoughtful decor choices all help to create a new and refreshing space.
All of the modern upgrades and stunning shower tile are the focal points for this beautiful transformation. With much of the layout remaining the same, renovators were able to play with fixtures, artwork, and design elements to breathe new life into this old space. Bravo, and well done.
Before: Stripped Bare
Only a seasoned contractor and a diligent visionary could see the potential that existed in this space prior to renovation. Cinder block walls, cement floors, and exposed pipes were begging to be beautified, and although space was limited, the potential for greatness was not.
Renovators and contractors get a little excited when they see a space like this, for the difficult work of demolition and removal of old fixtures will not inhibit work to build something truly magnificent. The good bones were there, they began to build from the studs right on up.
After: Plucky And Proper
Estimated Cost: $3400
Not having a lot of room to expand worked in this homeowner’s favor, as he was able to keep renovation costs low while recreating the space into something functional and pretty. Faux marble was installed in the shower and beyond for the bargain price of $1500, while finishing elements of plumbing and wiring to make the space usable took another big portion of the construction budget.
Clean was the name of the game for this small makeover–white marble-look tile was used throughout the space, helping to brighten it up and make it seem open. Pleasing fixtures and finished plumbing helped to make the room functional and cheerful.
Before: Cave-Like
While the use of natural colors and stone finishes has its place in bathroom decor, too much of a good thing is never a good idea. While the dark look isn’t the worst before picture ever taken, one can see a marked improvement when beholding the transformation.
One of the biggest obstacles that renovators faced when working on this project was the transformation of the shower, which involved tearing out the stone walls and installing an intricate yet breathtaking wall of mosaic tile. The end result was well worth every hour spent on the project.
After: White And Bright
Estimated Cost: $5500
Shower space renovation cost around $3000, and the clever use of textured tile on the walls adds depth to an otherwise white decor. A sleek $350 vanity ties elements of shower tile together with other new fixtures, and a completely new look is achieved.
While homeowners couldn’t completely let go of the use of pattern and color, the use of white and the amazing pattern used in the shower form a truly unique look that is hard to beat. The stylish vanity and one of a kind mirror presentation make this a memorable experience, no matter how brief your visit.
Before: No Need For Wow
Many of us would see few issues with this former space, but in the case of this homeowner, their enjoyment of this standard bathroom layout was now over. Clean fixtures and pleasing tile accents were appreciated in their time, but now it was time to think bigger.
This bathroom before is clean and organized, but it lacks a certain “wow” factor that many people look for when contemplating a room redesign. With a few cleverly selected upgrades, the original dull space was completely transformed.
After: A Clean Crisp Delight
Estimated Cost: $6000
Classy chevron tile forms the backdrop for an upgraded, open shower concept, while an extended countertop over the toilet tank provides a bit more room for storage, artistic expression, etc. With the original cabinet staying put, some thought was given to adding a pop of color that pulled the whole room together seamlessly.
Installation of the chevron tile and the glass framed shower door installation took around $3100, while the addition of a customized vanity top with additional space added $350 to the bill. A little paint and personality on the old cabinet, and you have a transformed space for a satisfying price.
Before: Decades Of Dating
Any vintage homeowner or antique aficionado would be proud to happen upon this bathroom. Once a crown jewel of bathrooms, it unfortunately is now past its prime, and is not in keeping with the updated decor of the rest of the home.
This bathroom was the place to be in the 40s, but it is now time to retire some of these fixtures. Dim lighting and dark floors and paint in combination with the not so subtle pink and maroon hues of the countertop left us desiring a bit more pizzazz.
After: Sleek And Modern
Estimated Cost: $7800
Keeping the unique look and shape of this vanity/countertop combo was of utmost importance to the homeowner, but it needed an updated design. For a little under $2200, designers were able to apply fresh paint and a new customized countertop to freshen this area of the room. A $1500 bamboo floor and a cool new paint job add warmth and refreshment to this new bath.
A little bit of vintage flair stays put in this space, courtesy of a clawfoot tub design. The sleek, modern countertop, sparkling elements of light, and well-placed artwork and accents give this whole room a fresh new look. This is a great place to relax, refresh, and unwind.
Before: Need To Expand
Sometimes you have to just transform an extra, unused bedroom into a bathroom. With the master bath in this house being way too small, renovators set to work designing a dreamy master bath and walk in closet. Let the creativity begin.
Another opportunity for greatness, this blank canvas bedroom is the stuff that dreams are made of. Plenty of space, room for even the most ornate and grand fixtures, and almost limitless potential make this an exciting renovation to contemplate.
After: Masterful Craftsmanship
Estimated Cost: $12,500
The creation of several free-standing self-care areas make this space welcoming to many and truly unique. A center-stand vanity cost homeowners $1100, while a separate free-standing sink near the wall was installed for $850. Breathtaking metallic tile along one wall adds light and interest to the space, all for a bargain price of $1250. Details both large and small contribute to a large and beautiful space that it seems more than one member of the family can use and enjoy simultaneously.
What transpired in this renovation was nothing short of miraculous. A free-standing tub is highlighted by the three-dimensional, metallic tile. With a natural stone look on both walls and floor, a seamless and sensational look abounds, and family members are clamoring for a chance to experience the new room.
Before: Humdrum Hall Hole
Rarely is a hallway bathroom considered inspirational, and this room falls into the humdrum category. In order to make this room more functional and beautiful, some shifting and shaving has to take place.
An outdated, 40s-style sink needs updating, and the bland color on the walls and dingy tile on the floor either need a good scrubbing or complete and total replacement. Fortunately, the homeowners decided in favor of replacement when redesigning their space.
After: Breathtaking Masterpiece
Estimated Cost: $11,300
$1100 multidimensional, metallic tile frames a deliciously decadent spa tub, which was purchased and installed for around $950. Faux stone tile for the floor and a $700 vintage farmhouse sink are additional pieces that add class and elegance to the room.
Changing out the vanity made room for the brand-new shower, a piece of artwork in and of itself. Unique aspects of design, such as placing the mirror in front of the window and the inclusion of black mosaic tile make this whole room light up with personality.
